Symptoms of diabetes | What is the leading cause of diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when blood sugar-also called blood glucose, is very high. Once a person has this disease, they'll have it for their entire life. There's no cure for diabetes. Blood sugar is the primary energy source, and you get it from the food you eat. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas. It helps the glucose from food get into your cells to be used as energy when there isn't enough insulin in the blood.
Two problems happen
First, the glucose level in the blood increases as the body continues to consume food; carbohydrates are turned into glucose and then absorbed into the bloodstream to be used as energy. If there is no insulin, the glucose can't be absorbed by the body's cells and used up. Second, the cells are starved of energy, and they get their vital point from fat. High blood sugar can damage organs such as the heart and kidneys.
Nerve and blood vessel damage can lead to blindness. Even the need for surgical removal of extremities' high blood sugar results from the body not getting enough insulin or not responding to the insulin it is getting. Early symptoms of diabetes can include increased thirst, frequent urination feeling tired and hungry, always vision problems, and slow wound healing; people may not have symptoms for many years.
The two main types of diabetes are type 1 diabetes. It is caused when the body's immune system attacks the pancreas and destroys the beta cells that produce insulin.
Once all the beta cells are demolished, the pancreas will stop producing insulin. Type 1 diabetes is often referred to as juvenile diabetes, and this is because most people are first diagnosed with this type at a young age; some get the disease later in life.
Type 2 diabetes is when the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin for the body or isn't working correctly. Type 2 tends to occur in overweight older people; losing weight, exercising, yoga, and eating a healthier diet can help slow down and avoid the onset of disease genetics and lifestyle are the most important causes of type 2 diabetes.
The key to living with this disease is regularly monitoring and controlling the body's blood sugar level. Some type 2 can control it through exercise and a healthy diet, and others may need to inject insulin or take pills. People with type 1 diabetes produce no insulin, so they have to inject insulin; as per the doctor's prescription, insulin was discovered by John Mccloud and Dr. Friedrich in 1921. They won the Nobel prize for their discovery. 4ESL English Learner for free.
